Antique Ladies Horn Handled Riding Crop with Hallmarked Silver Collar London 1905
Here on offer is a fine antique horn (antler) handled riding crop with a London hallmarked silver collar.
The handle has been made from a fine section of antler, that has been cut with “XXX”’s underneath to provide better grip. It is 4.3” long, point to point.
The handle fits to a d” long plain silver collar that has a rubbed set of English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for English silver (925), an leopard’s head for the assay office of London and the date letter “K” for the year 1905.
It also shows the makers mark, but the letters are slightly damaged/misshaped, but I think it reads as “W.B” set in an indented rectangle. There are a number of makers that use these initials, so without seeing the exact style/font of the letters, its not possible to know exactly who the maker is.
The plain silver collar is in excellent condition with just some minor dings, so it is perfect for adding a new owner’s name or initials too.
The top section is attached to a 4-section bamboo cane shaft that is in great condition and is very strong. The shaft itself is 20.3” long.
The leather/suede tail is dry but all complete, not split or cracked. I assume it has been replaced at some point in its life? It would benefit from some leather softener on it to make it subtle.
The crop measures 26.25” (66.7cm) long from the tip of the tail to the top of the handle.
It weighs 115g.
