Inter War Period English Hallmarked Silver Watch Fob or Medal for Military “Bayonet Fencing” 1928
Here on offer is an interesting, inter war period English hallmarked silver watch fob or medal for military “Bayonet Fencing” in 1928
The circular shaped fob has an ornately pieced top section fitted with suspension ring. In the centre is a blank shield shaped cartouche with laurel leaves around both sides.
On the reverse is have been engraved with the military competition details:
BAYONET
FENCING
1928
So, it would appear this was either never awarded to the winner or it was just never engraved with his details?
There is also a clear set of English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for English silver (925), an anchor for the assay office of Birmingham and the date letter “C” for the year 1927.
It also shows the makers mark, but the letters are slightly damaged/misshaped, but I think it reads as “W & H.” set in an indented rectangle, which I believe stands for the famous English maker:
Walker & Hall
The suspension ring is also stamped with the Lion Passant for English silver (925).
This military related fob is truly a fine quality piece that is in excellent condition.
It measures 1.5” (3.7cm) to top of ring by 1” (2.4cm) wide and weighs 8g.
