Olive Wood Greek KEPKYPA (Corfu) Walking Stick with Carved Grip Depicting a Reptile’s Devouring a Human dated 1937
Here on offer is an original olive wood Greek KEPKYPA (Corfu) walking stick with an intricate carved grip, depicting teethed reptiles devouring a human, dated to 1937.
This unique walking stick has been hand carved with the grip depicting a reptile’s head, eating a smaller reptile, which is in turn, eating a human, with just its torso and head with long hair, sticking out of its mouth.
Just below the grip, it is engraved with:

The olive wood shaft is in excellent condition and still retains its original metal ferrule.
The people on the Corfu Island make these hand-sculpted olivewood walking sticks. In Kepkypa (Corfu), olive wood is seen as the wood of ‘life and new beginnings'.
The walking stick measures 38.6” (98cm) long and has a diameter of approximately 0.9” (2.2cm).
It weighs 390g.
