Late 19th Century Folding Bowie Knife with 7.5” Clip-Point Blade and Stag Horn Grip
Here on offer is late 19th century folding Bowie knife with 7.5” clip-point cutting edge blade and stag horn grip.
The slender 8.5” clip-point steel blade has an actual cutting edge of 7.5” and is in great condition, with some age-related marks and staining to the finish.
The swivelling crossguard, blade release folding spring clip, bolsters and liners are all made from brass and are held in place by steel pins.
The action still works smoothly but the blade now wobbles when locked in place, owing to about 150 years of wear to the mechanism.
The grip is made of two beautiful dark stag horn scales that are pinned securely to the grip frame by six brass pins. The stag horn now has age cracks and on one side a tiny slither of horn is missing from the edge.
The are now makers marks on the knife, but I believe this may have been made in Germany towards to end of the 19th century.
It would have originally had a leather sheath to cover the exposed blade when closed, but this is now sadly missing.
The blade measures 8.5” (21.6cm) long has an actual cutting edge of 7.5” 19cm). When fully open the knife is 12.25” (31.2cm) in total length.
It weighs 255g.
