Scarce Australian Souvenir Matchbox Cover “The Dog 0n the Tucker Box” with Bowyang Yorke’s Verse
Here on offer is a scarce original metal and celluloid matchbox cover with Bowyang Yorke's verse, "BILL THE BULLOCKY" printed on it.
It is about a dog on the tucker box written on 20th June 1859.
On the front is the image of the monument unveiled to the legendary dog in Gundagai, NSW Australia.
The whole matchbox cover is coated in a clear celluloid to protect the images and it has a black and white chequered border.
There is some cracking and loss of the celluloid covering on the back and spine and rubbing to the lettering and some staining.
It comes with an empty box of “SOLO”, Safety Matches, London.
The matchbox cover measures 2.4” (6.1cm) high by 1.7” (4.2cm) wide and is 0.8” (2cm) deep.
It weighs 25g.
