Antique Victorian ‘Tippling Cane’ with a Concealed Glass Vial and Drinking Glass

Here on offer is a rare antique Victorian ‘Tippling Cane’ with a long-concealed glass vial and small drinking glass, circa 1880.

This unusual 19th century wooden walking stick/cane, is also known as a ‘tippling cane’ or ‘tippler’ and has a long glass vial concealed in the main section and a drinking glass inside the top section.

The metal fitments are made from copper and it has a steel ferrule tip.

The top pommel unscrews to reveal the small drinking glass, which is in perfect condition and measures 2.3” (6cm) tall.

The top section also unscrews but the thread has worn over the years and now has some tape applied which means you now need to partly push the section together then screw it gently into place.

Once this section is removed it reveals the long thin glass vial, that still has its silver topped cork stopper. The vial measures 15.5” (39.4cm) long, including the stopper and is also in perfect condition.

The cane itself is in great condition with an old small split to the top section. Although the sections still fit tightly, I would suggest the cane is just used for display and not actually as a walking cane, to preserve its great condition. It is a museum piece really!

The cane measures 35” (89cm) long and weighs 250g.
