Fine Antique Bamboo Cane Short Sword Stick with 800 Stamped Silver Collar
Here on offer is an antique bamboo cane sword stick with a short, possibly German made blade, circa 1880.
The short square sectioned steel blade is 11.25” (28.6cm) long and 0.2” (0.4cm) square at the base.
The blade is in excellent condition and retains a very sharp tapered point and just has some age greying to the finish near the tip.
There are no maker’s marks on the blade but it has a deeply grooved zig-zag and lined pattern on all four surfaces, the likes of which I haven’t seen before.
The curved handle and straight shaft section of the cane are made from sections of antique darkened bamboo.
The handle with blade fits snugly into the shaft and twist locks into place using the silver collar to retain a pin. The silver collar itself has a hand embossed dimple pattern and is stamped “800” which is the European standard for silver, making me think this is probably a German made piece.
The bamboo cane itself is in excellent condition and has a beautiful dark brown coloured patina finish.
The tip has a long metal collar section at the end that is fitted with a brass ferrule.
It is just a good quality antique sword stick/cane that also acts perfectly as a walking stick.
With the blade inserted, it measures 34.25” (87cm) long and the bamboo cane is about 0.7” (1.6cm) diameter.
It weighs 220g.
