Antique WW1 British Officers Leather Covered Swagger Stick with Concealed Blade
Here on offer is a fine antique WW1 or earlier, British officers leather covered swagger stick with a concealed blade.
The short square sectioned steel blade is 12.9” (32.7cm) long and 0.25” (0.6cm) square at the base.
The blade is in great condition and retains a very sharp tapered point and just has some age greying to the finish. It has a very slight almost undetectable curve that makes it a tight to insert into the scabbard section.
The blade is devoid of any maker’s marks and may have started life as a fencing blade?
The handle and scabbard section are made from wood that has been covered with a dark brown leather. The leather is in fine condition and the stitching is still in place on the scabbard but is missing from most of the handle. The leather looks to have been originally glued in place, so is still perfectly retained on the handle.
The handle with blade fits snugly into the shaft but when fully inserted, is slightly loose for the first inch.
The whole swagger stick is in excellent condition and has a beautiful dark brown coloured patina finish to the leather.
With the blade inserted, it measures 20.5” (52cm) long and is about 0.9” (2.3cm) diameter.
It weighs 195g.
