WW2 Allied Land Mine Detection & Removal Modified Machete with Leather Scabbard by ROBCO Ltd, Montreal 1944

Here on offer is an unusual, shortened WW2 military machete that I am told was used for land mine detection and removal?

The blade has been expertly shortened to 9.75” and the tip now has a semicircular edge, with a slight central point.

The cutting edge is still sharp and the blade now has light pitting and greying to the finish. There are no visible makers or miliary markings on the blade, that I can see.

The grip is unusual, being made from two shaped wooden grip slabs, that are fitted securely to the blade tang by three large steel rivets.

The original thick brown leather scabbard has also been shortened and the tip finished with a shaped metal edge. The leather is in great condition, with just some slight surface cracking to the front and sides.

The remaining original stitching and rivets are still in place. It also still has the original grip retaining strap in place, but the leather is in fragile condition and the metal stud has been lost to time.

On the front of the large belt loop, it is stamped with the makers details:

ROBCO LTD
MONTREAL
1944

This is a great opportunity to add an unusual and possibly unique British WW2 machete to your collection.

The machete measures 15.75” (40cm) long and has a 9.75” (24.8cm) blade.

With the scabbard, it weighs 600g.
