Untouched Original WW2 Double Proofed Transitional Hitler Youth Knife by WKC dated 1938

Here on offer is an untouched original WW2 double proofed “transitional” Hitler Youth knife by WKC Solingen and dated 1938.

These transitional knives are becoming scarce to find and were made for a very short period before the issues over the right of the manufacturers to host their company logo’s on blades came to a head and was unfortunately lost to the Reich quality control authority (R.Z.M.).

Sadly, this example has been stored in the past somewhere that it has been damp. This it has corroded the scabbard and some of the fittings, however, the grips, emblem and blade are in great condition.

The nickel-plated hilt fittings show some loss of plating and tarnishing as shown in my photos.

The Bakelite grip plates are in excellent undamaged condition and are still held in place by the two original nickel dome headed rivets.

The HJ diamond emblem is also in excellent condition and fits with a slight wobble, as it should, in the grip.

The blade is the version with a ricasso and without the motto. It still has a bright finish with just some light age pitting in a couple of areas. The blade shape and cutting edge just shows some very light sharpening.

The reverse shows crisp double proof marks, one being the Knights Head for WKC and above this is etched a RZM circle with the code M7/42 and 1938 below.

The leather buffer pad is still in place, which is what I believe has saved the blade from any heavy moisture damage.

The steel scabbard is undented, but shows a lot of corrosion to its finish, which I have left untouched, but some restoration/repainting could be undertaken if you wanted to restore it?

The leather belt loop hanger and fastening strap and stud are still in place, but it shows some age wear and the strap is dry and quite fragile now.

On the reverse of the back strap, you can just make out the stamped maker’s mark, being LFS set across an oak leaf.

It appears it is rare to find a strap with a maker’s mark, but I can’t find any reference so the makers name?

So, this knife clearly has issues but is a real genuine example of a transitional variant that still displays well and has a great blade.

The blade measures 5.5” (13.9cm) long and the knife is 9.75” (24.8cm) in total length.

Inserted in the scabbard it measures 9.9” (25.3cm) long.

It weighs 300g.
