WW2 British Military Machete by MARTINGALE with Leather Scabbard by D.M & S. Ltd dated 1945 and Reissued 1952

Here on offer is a fine example of a WW2 British military machete by MARTINDALE with a thick brown leather scabbard by D.M & S. Ltd dated 1945.

It also has a British MOD arrow mark and the number 52, meaning it was reissued for use in 1952, probably for use by British troops during the Korean war.

The two black Bakelite grip slabs are in excellent condition and fitted securely to the blade tang by five large copper rivets. There is a hole at the top so a lanyard or rope strap can be fitted.

One of the slabs has the number 13 stamped into it and there are the remains of red paint on the very top edge.

The 14.6” heavy steel blade is also in great condition and still retains a sharp cutting edge.

It now has a polished finish with over light scratch marks and some small patches of dark oxitisation along with signs of sharpening and nicks to the cutting edge.

On one side it is stamped with the maker’s logo, being a CROCODILE, above the word REGISTERED.

This is the early logo image for the British maker MARTINDALE who were contracted to make them during WW2.

The dark brown thick leather scabbard is in excellent condition with all the original stitching and rivets in place. It also still has the original grip retaining strap in place, that is in full working condition.

On the back of the large belt loop, it is stamped with the makers details:

D.M & S. Ltd (MOD Arrow)
1945

There is also another MOD arrow and the number 52, the reissue date of 1952, as described above.

This is a great opportunity to add a genuine British WW2 machete to your collection.

The machete measures 21.4” (55.5cm) long and has a 14.6” (37cm) blade.

With the scabbard, it weighs a heavy 890g.
