Large Vintage Bowie Knife with Etched Scene of American Indian’s Hunting Buffalo c1960
Here on offer is a great example of a large vintage bowie knife with etched scene of American Indian’s hunting buffalo, circa 1960.
The smooth grip is made up of two shaped wooden slabs, held in place with three large brass pins.
The rounded finger guard is made from polished brass and fits tightly to the beautiful polished clip point Bowie blade.
There is no maker or other details on this knife, but I think it’s a vintage Sheffield made piece, probably made for the American market?
The large 10.6” blade is in great condition with just some light pitting and scratches on the surface. It has a full blade tang and still retains a good cutting edge with a needle-sharp tip!
The American buffalo hunting scene is etched on one side and is still retains most of the dark background.
There is no sheath with this knife and it possibly never had with one?
The long Bowie blade measures 10.6” (27cm) and the knife itself 15.75” (40cm) long.
It weighs a heavy 485g.
