WW1 – White China 1914-1919 Peace Mug - Liberty Justice Truth Honour with an Interesting Crest and Signature of a Mayor

Here on offer is a WW1 white china 1914-1919 Peace Mug - Liberty Justice Truth Honour with an interesting crest and signature of a Mayor?

The white bodied china mug has an applied transfer depicting Britannia and the flags of the Allies with a Dove of Peace and the words “Liberty, Justice, Truth, Honour” in a ribbon at the bottom.

The shield transfer on the other side contains the famous Sir David Beattys Historic Signal:

“The German flag is to be hauled down at Sunset today, and is not to be hoisted again with permission”.
Nov. 21st 1918

Below the shield are the words:

War Declared against Germany, August 4th 1914.
General Armistice signed Nov. 11th 1918.
Peace Signed June 28th 1919.

Then interestingly on this mug, between these two transfers in another one of a family crest with OMINA BONA BONIS and the facsimile signature of:

E Saunders Mayor

I can’t trace this family crest or the Mayor, but clearly it was a special and possibly unique piece?

The mug is in excellent condition with no cracks that I can see, just age cracking to the glaze finish and a pin head chip out of the edge of the gilt rim.

There is no maker mark, just a gilt X on the base.

It measures 3” (7.7cm) tall and is about 3” (7.7cm) diameter.

It weighs 215g.
