Original Large WW2 “1 Pint” China Mug by New Hall Pottery and Dated 1941
Here on offer is an original large WW2 “1 pint capacity” thick china mug by New Hall pottery and dated 1941.
This type of mug is typical of those used at British Army and RAF bases during WW2.
The mug is in excellent condition with just one tiny circular section of missing glaze on the side, probably from the time of manufacture. It also shows age related crazing to the glaze which is to be expected of something of this age.
On the base it is marked NEW HALL, with a “W” in a diamond maker’s mark and the date 1941.
New Hall Pottery Co. of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, England, was founded in 1899/1900.
New Hall Pottery remained open during the Second World War under the Wartime Concentration Scheme and were permitted to produce undecorated domestic ware. They also produced canteen ware for the British armed forces.
The mug measures 4.1” (10.4cm) high by 4” (10.2cm) dimeter and weighs a heavy 460g.
