Genuine WW1 ‘The Gift Of The Colonies’ Chocolate Tin
Here on offer is a genuine WW1 tin that would have contained chocolate from the British Colonies that were sent out to the serving British Military Forces on the battlefronts.
On the front lid the tin is marked in gilt lettering with:
THE GIFT OF THE COLONIES OF TRINIDAD, GRANADA & ST LUCIA TO HIS MAJESTY’S NAVAL & MILITARY FORCES.
and:
THIS CHOCOLATE IS MADE FROM COCOA GROWN IN TRINIDAD GRANADA & ST LUCIA
It was made by B.W. & M ltd Mansfield, England and this is printed on the base.
It is is excellent condition, with slight wear to the gilt finish on the top but all the lettering and images can still be made out.
There are just a few tiny dents to the front cover and the base does have some scratches.
The inside retains all ist original gilt finish and shines bright!
This is the best original example I have had the pleasure to own.
The tin measures 9” (23cm) long by 4” (10cm) wide and 1.1” (3cm) thick.
It weighs 160g.
