London 1936 Hallmarked Silver Matchbox Cover with Long Royal Swan Vestas Matchbox
Here on offer is a London 1936 hallmarked silver matchbox cover with a long Royal Swan Vestas matchbox.
The long solid silver matchbox cover has a beautiful engine turned surface, set with a blank rectangular cartouche. There are a couple of surface marks and scratches to the finish.
The solid and cutaway sides are plain and also show some minor indentations.
The base also has a plain finish and is fitted with four small bun feet and shows some creases especially near the end where the matchbox slides in.
On the side there are a clear set of English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for English silver (925), a Lion’s head for the assay office of London and the date letter “A” for the year 1936.
It also shows the makers mark, “E.W.P..” set in an indented rectangle.
I have done some research but can’t find out who the maker was with this maker mark?
It also comes with a long period matchbox made by Royal Swan Vestas that is in well used condition with most of the stricker material now worn off the side. It does still retain the draw pull tassel on the front of the sectioned draw.
This silver matchbox cover is truly a fine quality piece and would make a great addition to any silver collection.
It measures 6.3” (16.2cm) long by 2.1” (5.2cm) wide and is 1.1” (2.6cm) high.
It weighs 140g.
