Pocket Forecaster by Negratti & Zimbra London in original box with instructions c1920
Here on offer is a scarce example of a pocket forecaster by Negratti & Zimbra of London, in its original box, complete with instructions, circa 1920.
The pocket forecaster is constructed using three concentric discs, made from an early celluloid.
The white base disc displays “Direction of Wind” and has the maker’s “Negretti & Zambra, London,” around the edge.
The ivory-coloured middle disc has the barometric scale at sea level, 28 to 31, in inches of mercury.
The white upper disc is marked with the maker’s logogram and “Pat. No. 6276/15,” that dates to 1915.
There are three viewing windows revealing a forecast code for Steady, Rising or Falling pressure.
The reverse is clearly marked with twenty-six weather predictions.
By using the code obtained from the upper disc, it can be translated on the reverse to a predicted weather forecast.
This fine example comes complete with its original instruction sheet and card box.
It is in excellent condition; the celluloid discs are clean with minimal signs of ageing. There are just some splits to two of the corners of the cardboard box.
It disc measures 2.1” (5.4cm) diameter and weighs 7.4g.
