WW2 - 4” Naval Shell - Bottle Holder -“Coal Scuttle” Presented to the Cardigan Arms Pub - Moulton 1944
Hear on offer is an unusual WW2 “trench art” presentation bottle holder, that looks like a “coal scuttle”, made from 4” Naval artillery shells.
The coal shuttle has been really well made and includes a swivel handle. The whole piece has then been chrome plated and has the following dedication inscribed on the front:
4” NAVAL SHELL
PRESENTED
TO
“THE CARDIGAN ARMS”
IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF MOULTON
WHO FOUGHT AND DIED IN WORLD WAR II
There is still a pub called the “Cardigan Arms” in Moulton, Northampton, England, which could well be the pub that it was presented too?
On the base of the main shell are a number of British military ordnance marks, such as:
4in Mk5 IV XII & XIX GUNS FA
(crows foot mark) LV
LOT 221
LCC
N
1944
It is in excellent condition with just some slight thinning of the plating in a couple of areas.
The main section measures 10.4” (26.5cm) long and the whole piece weighs a very heavy 3.3Kg.
