Small Commemorative Silver Medal for The Battle of Jutland – 1916 - by Spink & Son
Here on offer is small commemorative silver medal for The Battle of Jutland – 1916 - by Spink & Son, London.
The medal has been cast in sterling silver and the obverse presents two crossed flags of the White Ensign and the Union Jack with a trident in the middle, surrounded by the inscription:
TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL THAT DAY
On the reverse it depicts a laurel wreath with an interior inscription reading:
MAY 31, 1916 THE GERMAN FLEET
ATTACKED OFF THE COAST OF JUTLAND AND DRIVEN BACK INTO PORT WITH HEAVY LOSS.
ADMIRAL SIR JOHN JELLICOE COMMANDER IN CHIEF.
VICE ADMIRAL SIR DAVID BEATTY COMMANDING BATTLE CRUISIER FLEET.
It is also marked in small letters, SPINK & SON 1916 at the 6 o’clock position
On the top edge, near integral loop, it is stamped SILVER.
It is in great condition, with some slight age wear to the raised lettering.
It measures 0.9” (2.2cm) diameter and weighs 7g.
