Scarce Gilt and Enamel 1902 Royal Coronation Brooch - from Queen Alexandra
Here on offer is a scarce antique gilt brass and enamel 1902 Royal Coronation brooch, that appears to have been a gift/award from Queen Alexandra.
Edward VII coronation, with his wife Alexandra of Denmark, was held on 9th August 1902.
I can’t find much information about this brooch, but it would appear not many where made and they were given as a gift or award to people who served at the coronation, by Queen Alexandra.
The round gilt brooch is in great condition and depicts a shield shaped royal crest with red and blue enamel and the year 1902 in white enamel in a gilt ribbon. On the edges there are the letters A and R that stand for Alexandra Regina.
On the back it has in raised letters:
FROM THE QUEEN
Along with REGd No. 392317, which is the registered design number and relates to the year 1902.
There is also a small loop with the remains of a 9ct gold safety chain still attached. It is just missing the safety pin section.
It still retains its original metal pin and “C” clasp but there is no maker’s name.
It measures 1.1” (2.9cm) diameter and weighs 7g.
