H.M.S. GANGES Hallmarked Silver Sports Medal by N.A.A.F.I. – “Winners 2nd Division” – 1927
Here on offer is an inter wars period, H.M.S. GANGES hallmarked silver sports medal, made by N.A.&A.F.I. and awarded to the “Winners 2nd Division” in 1927.
The circular medal has been made from hallmarked English silver and the front depicts the scene of two runners in what looks to be a cross country race.
The reverse displays the finely detailed raised image of the ship’s figure head and in a ribbon below, the ships name: H.M.S. GANGES.
Around the top it has been engraved with the words:
WINNERS 2nd Div. 1927
On the side there is the maker’s mark which reads as:
NA&AFI
This relates to NAAFI - Navy, Army & Air Force Institute, who actually made such medals.
It also has a clear set of English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for English silver (925), an anchor for the assay office of Birmingham and the date letter “B” for the year 1926.
This medal is truly a fine quality piece that is in beautiful condition, with just one slight knock to the raised rim.
It measures 1.3” (3.2cm) diameter and weighs 17g.
