WW2 Silver Gilt RAF “Wings” Sweetheart Bar Brooch by Ward Brothers c1940
Here on offer is a finely detailed example of a silver gilt RAF emblem sweetheart bar brooch, circa 1940, by Ward Brothers.
This is a thickly gold-plated piece with fine detailing to the spread feathered wings along with the Kings Crown and “RAF” letters.
The back of the crown it is stamped “S”, possibly for silver?
Then there is the maker’s stamp “W. Bs” for Ward Brothers of Glasgow at the base of the fixing pin.
Ward Brothers ceased to exist in 1970 and their products now have a collector's value in their own right.
The gilt metal fixing pin fits neatly into an ornate “C” clasp and the whole brooch is in excellent condition.
The brooch (bar) is 2” (5cm) wide and it weighs 2.6g.
