Two Vintage RAF Model Aircraft Association Championship Medals - c1966
Here on offer is are two vintage RAF Model Aircraft Association (M.A.A.) Championship medals, awarded in 1966.
The RAF Model Aircraft Association has been active since 1949 encouraging participants in Model Flying events at local, Inter-Service, national and international level.
Under the governance of the Directorate of RAF Sport, the RAFMAA supports Service Personnel as they compete in their chosen Model Flying discipline. This includes compliance with British Model Flying Association and CAA guidance to ensure that competition is conducted as safely as possible.
Each medal appears to have been cast in brass or bronze with a silver finish.
The obverse depicts a laurel wreath engraved in the centre with the words:
R.A.F. M.A.A.
On the reverse they are engraved with the Championship details, both where for 3rd place, one for FREE FLIGHT - OPEN GLIDER and the other for FREE FLIGHT - COUP D’HIVER.
These medals are in great condition with just some light surface scratches and loss of plating to the edges.
They each measure 1.5” (3.9cm) diameter and weigh 26g.
