George III - Trafalgar Period - Royal Navy Officer’s Dirk with Scabbard c1800

Here on offer is a fine example of a George III, Trafalgar period, Royal Navy officer’s dirk with scabbard, circa 1800.

The beautiful grip has a lower section made from circular sections of natural materials, with a smoothly turned pommel. The whole grip now has a wonderful aged patina and there is a tiny crack in one of the discs and a couple are slightly misaligned but it is securely fitted to the tang and brass ferrell.

The ornate brass crossguard has raised images of English roses on the upper surface.

The polished steel double edged blade has a central ridge to both sides and retains a sharp tip and smooth undamaged edges. There are some areas of old pitting on both sides as shown in my photos.

The black leather covered scabbard has large brass mounts that are decorated with grooved rings and ornate edges. The upper mount is fitted with a single brass hanger ring.

The dirk fits snuggly into the scabbard and is in excellent condition for its age.

This is a fine example of a Trafalgar-period English naval piece that can really only increase in value!

The blade measures 8.8” (22cm) long and the whole dirk is 12.4” (31.5cm) long.

It weighs 170g.
