Antique Brown Leather Cavalry Sword Storage Bag by Wilkinson Pall Mall London – Initials E.G.L.M.

Here on offer is an antique brown leather cavalry sword storage bag by (Henry) Wilkinson of Pall Mall, London, that has just ‘surfaced’ from a sword storage chest.

The bag has seen some service and is in well used condition, with creases and a now rough/flaky finish to the leather edges, which would benefit from a leather feed and polish.

The semicircular top section has the owner’s initials embossed on the front, ‘E.G.L.M.’

The closing strap and buckle are still in place, but the end section of the leather strap is now missing, but it still closes and can be held closed with the remaining section of strap and buckle.

There is a small hole on the front cover but that seems to be all the damage I can see.

There is still a hanging loop on the back but it has nearly pulled away from the stitching at one end.

On the main section, at the top, it has the maker’s name stamped into the leather:

WILKINSON
PALL MALL
LONDON

The main body is actually in good order and all the original stitching is still in place. It has been folded in half and stored for a lot of its life which has helped to preserve the leather, albeit its now dry and slightly stiff. I am sure with the application of a good leather feed, it would restore it to its original malleable condition.

It measures 42” (107cm) long and the top circular section is 11” (28cm) wide.

It weighs 630g.
