Near Mint Swiss SIG Stgw Model 1957 Pattern Bayonet with Scabbard
Here on offer is a Swiss SIG Stgw 1957 pattern bayonet with its original scabbard.
Model 1957 Pattern Bayonet by Maschinenfabrik of Bern, Switzerland.
This bayonet and scabbard are designed for use with the Swiss SIG Stgw (Sturmgewehr)57 assault rifle, which was in production from 1957 to 1983.
The bayonet features a ribbed plastic grip with a release catch located at the rear of the pommel and a front cross guard.
The blade is double-edged with a spear point and bears a ‘V’ stamp on one side of the ricasso over serial number 283234, where the ‘V’ indicates the blade’s supplier was Victorinox.
On the obverse side, there is a ‘WF’ motif, denoting assembly by Waffenfabrik of Bern.
The cross guard is stamped with the ‘KV146,’ and the grip displays the letter ‘M’ encircled, on both sides.
It comes with a plastic scabbard, marked with several inscriptions: “64” inside a starburst within a circle, “B over 3015 over 1” inside a circle, and “K9” inside another circle.
Additionally, there is a cursive ‘P’ on the scabbard throat, indicating that the scabbard was made by Paillard AG of St. Croix.
This type of scabbard no longer has the leather securing tab, so it would typically be carried using the frogs intended for the M1957 and M1990 bayonets.
The bayonet and scabbard are in near mint condition with just some light runner marks on the blade.
The blade measures 9.4” (23.7cm) long and the bayonet is 14.5” (36.8cm) in total length.
It weighs 410g.
