Antique Hallmarked Silver Card Case by Colen Hewer Cheshire – Chester 1902
Here on offer is a beautiful antique hallmarked silver card case by Colen Hewer Cheshire, assayed in Chester in 1902.
The rectangular shaped case has been professionally decorated with bright cut, hand chased swirling floral decoration on the front and back.
It has a vacant circular cartouche on the front and a slanted hinged lid at the top.
On the inside lip edge, it is stamped with the maker’s mark, C.C and a full set of English silver hallmarks.
These are; the lion passant denoting English silver, three wheat sheaves and a sword, indicating it was assayed in Chester and the date letter B for 1902.
The makers mark C.C refers to the silversmith, Colen Hewer Cheshire, of Northampton Street, Birmingham.
There is also the lion passant and date letter B, stamped on the back of the lid.
The case has a gilt lining to the inside, which is a true sign of quality.
The condition is excellent for its age, with just some very minor dings to the rounded edges. The hinged lid still closes tightly, but there is a very small spilt to the lid near the hinge on the front that, doesn’t affect its operation. Please see my photos.
It measures 3.2” (8.2cm) by 1.8” (4.6cm) and weighs 35g.
Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
