WW2 RAF Booklet – The Story of a Brave Shropshire Airman - Flight-Lieutenant Eric Stanley Lock, DSO, DFC with Bar
Here on offer is a scarce WW2 period booklet that tells the story of the famous RAF fighter pilot, Flight-Lieutenant Eric Stanley Lock, DSO, DFC with Bar.
The small booklet is titled:
The Story of a Brave Shropshire Airman
It was originally sold for one shilling and the proceeds were used in support of the Royal Air Force Pilot’s and Crews fund.
In the front it includes a facsimile image of letter dated 1942, from his mother Dora lock, where she gives her approval for the publication of the booklet.
It consists of 42 pages with a number of printed photo images of Eric.
It actually makes a fascinating read and tells his life story from a boy through to sadly his last flight in 1941, when he was reported missing in action.
The booklet is in great condition for its age, with all the pages firmly in place, but it does show some slight “staple rust” stains on the front spine and the covers edges have some slight damage.
It has clearly been prized for many years, as one of its previous owners was given it by their Gran!
Inside the front cover it has a message:
To Sean Christe
From Gran
Sept 1974
It measures 5.5” (14cm) by 4.4” (11.2cm).
