WW2 German K-98 Dress Bayonet by E. Pack & Sohne with Stag Grip and Black Leather Frog
Here on offer is an excellent example of a WW2 German K-98 dress bayonet with stag grips by Ernst Pack & Sohne, complete with its original black leather frog.
All the hilt fittings have a bright nickel-plated finish that is in great condition, with just very minor usage marks and plating loss.
The “birds head’ shaped pommel still has a functioning bayonet catch, when the ‘eye’ of the bird is pushed. It also still has green felt fitted in the rifle slot, that I believe, possibly denotes a Jager division?
The beautiful stag antler grips are in near mint condition and held in place by two grip bolts.
I believe this method of securing the grips was only used by E.P.&S, all other manufactures used rivets.
The crossguard is the swept forward quillion type and the thick brown leather scabbard buffer is still in place.
The plain single fullered nickel-plated blade is in near mint condition, with just some very light runner marks and tiny dark specks near the ricasso.
One side of the ricasso is marked with the maker‘s ‘hammer wielding man’ logo “Siegfried WAFFEN” and their name:
E. PACK & SOHNE
SOLINGEN
It comes complete with its un-dented, black Japanned steel scabbard, that shows signs of surface pitting on both sides.
Fitted to the scabbard is its original stiff black leather frog that still solid and has all the stitching and rivets in place.
It now has a strange overall wrinkled finish to the black leather, almost like it has “melted”. Maybe the original polish has just reacted in the conditions it was stored in over the years? You can see this has been fitted to this bayonet all its life.
This is just a wonderful genuine example still with its frog and near mint blade.
The blade measures 9.6” (24.4cm) and the bayonet itself is 14.3” (36.5cm) long.
It weighs 530g.
