Genuine Original WW1 British Army Leather Jerkin Dated 1918

Here on offer is a genuine WW1 British Army leather Jerkin, dated 1918.

The WW1 British Army leather Jerkin was introduced by the British Army in 1915 for trench wear and it proved to be very popular.

This fine example is a very large size, possibly XXL, measuring 24.5” across the front when laid flat.

It has been made from four large sections of soft leather that are strongly stitched together and it has two large outer pockets to the front.

The original woollen lining is now missing but this has allowed us to view the stamped British Army “Crow” mark and the year of manufacture 1918, on the seam inside the back section, near the top collar.

It has four buttons, but they are later leather looking “plastic” versions, as used during WW2. I suspect this Jerkin may have seen some service during WW2 as well as WW1.

It is very hard to find examples of genuine WW1 Jerkins and this one is an impressive example, with all the leather seeming to be in great condition with overall wear marks to the surface and some scuffs.
In the future it may benefit from a leather treatment to continue to keep it supple.

This is a true archetypal piece of WW1 British trench warfare clothing.

The Jerkin measures 24.5” (62cm) across the front and weighs approximately 1Kg.
