Ornately Engraved Sterling Silver “1899 Dollar” Money Clip by Native American Designer Morgan Smith

Here on offer is an ornately engraved American sterling silver “1899 dollar” money clip by the famed native American designer, Morgan Smith, Nevada.

The folded sliver flap that attaches to the coins frame has been beautifully hand engraved with an antique style swirling pattern. Inside the flap you can just see the makers details:

Smith’s
Incline, Nev (with outline of Nevada)
STERLING

This example is in excellent condition and the prices of Morgan Smiths jewellery are just increasing in value.


Some history relating to Morgan Smith.

He was around the Reno/Tahoe area from early 1930's through to the early 1980's, where he supervised Native American workers in silver and goldsmith work.

He finally moved to Arizona to be with his sister and died in 1985.

I believe there are 3-4 periods of his work:

1) Signed Morgan Smith.

2) Morgan Smith with a Native American with an anvil.

3) Smith's Incline, Nev. with outline of Nevada.

4) Native Americans undertook engraving as well and there is a Smith Enterprise marked with state of NV.


The coin in the frame measures 1.5” (3.8cm) diameter and it weighs 43.5g.
