Vintage Rank Taylor-Hobson Micro Alignment Telescope 112/537-734 "N"

Here on offer is a vintage Rank Taylor-Hobson Micro Alignment Telescope 112/536-734 “N”.

My understanding is that a micro alignment telescope focuses from zero to infinity and incorporates an optical micrometer to measure deviations from an optical line of sight in two directions at right angles to each other.

These are used for precision measurements in the aircraft, defence, shipbuilding and electro-optical metrology in the submarine industries.

Given the shade of the light grey paint, I think this may have been used by the Royal Navy back in the late 1970’s, early 1980’s.

It is in great condition with clear optics and it adjusts and focuses perfectly. There is just a tiny fleck of “fluff” inside the edge of the eyepiece lens and also a couple of small chips to the outer black rim.

The main chrome barrel shows some very light overall scratching where it has been inserted and removed from a mounting/support rig.

There is still its original “Rank Taylor – Hobson” trademark label attached.

It measures approximately 17.5” (44.5cm) long and the telescope barrel is 2.25” (5.7cm) diameter.

It weighs a very heavy 4.5Kg.
