Antique East African Sudanese Arm Dagger with Sheath

Here on offer is an East African Sudanese arm dagger with sheath, probably from the late 19th century.

This dagger features an excellent straight double-edged blade that tapers to a point with a central ridge. There are also two smaller ridges that run the length of the blade near the blade edges. It has a bright polished finish with some scattered dark patches and very light pitting.

The hilt is constructed from one solid piece of African hard wood and now has a beautiful patina to the finish. There is an old split/repair to one section near the pommel, so clearly this was a valued dagger that warranted repairing.

The knife is accompanied by an old red-brown leather sheath that has bands of tan grey reptilian skin trim.
The leather section has a tribal pattern tooled into the leather and on the reverse, there is a strong leather loop that would have held the braided leather arm ring, which sadly is now missing.

The blade measures 8” (20.5cm) long and the whole dagger measures 12.25” (31.2cm). It weighs 160g.

This is a unique dagger and a great collector’s piece.
