Unusual “Bursa Etem” Stamped Hunting Knife with Deer Antler Grip
Here on offer is an unusual and possibly antique, hunting or boot knife that was hand made by the famous blacksmiths of Bursa in Turkey.
The single edged curved blade is stamped:
BURSA ETEM
This implies it was made by one of the master blacksmiths in Bursa.
The brass finger guard is interesting as it resembles a miniature version of a socket bayonet crossguard, with a small barrel hole at the top and a curved quillion at the bottom.
The grip has been crafted from two beautiful slabs of deer antler that are held against the blade tang by three iron pins.
Sadly, the original leather sheath is no longer with the knife.
The knife is in excellent condition for its age with just some light age staining to the blade.
The blade measures 4.7” (12cm) long and the complete knife is 8.5” (21.5cm).
It weighs 55g.
In Turkey, the Bursa’s blacksmith's have a history of making knifes for over seven hundred years.
The tools of the first seven Ottoman Sultans, such as their swords, wedges, axes, spears, are the work of Bursa blacksmith's.
Today, knife masters continue their crafts by transferring them from generation to generation in the region called Bursa.
