WW2 Period English Stag Handled Boot Knife with Leather Sheath

Here on offer is what I was told is a WW2 period English stag handled boot knife with a custom-made leather sheath.

This came from a collection of items from a museum that closed its doors and its collection was made up of military “items” that had been donated, mainly from WW2.

I don’t have any provenance to go with this story but the knife is similar to others that were privately purchased by British and American soldiers during WW2.

This knife has clearly seen “service” but the single edged bowie style steel blade still holds a good edge and is just shows some light age staining and scratches.
The is no makers name on the blade, just on one side of the ricasso, the words:

FINEST STEEL
WARRANTED

The grip is made from a two slabs of beautiful stag horn that are held tightly together with four brass pins.

It has an aluminium pommel that has a five-pointed star stamped on three sides? Maybe a maker’s logo?

The pommel, grip and spacers are held in place by an integral brass screw that fits to the knife tang at the top.

The custom-made brown leather sheath is stitched at the front and has a belt loop at the back, which has been squashed flat, as if it was possible fitted in the top of a boot? There is a slight spilt at the top edge, but no retaining strap, so it could be easily and quickly withdrawn from the sheath.

The bowie blade measures 4.75” (12cm) long and the knife is 8.5” (21.6cm) in total length.

It weighs 170g.
