Ornate Vintage Spanish “Eagle” Diplomatic Dress Parade Sword made in Toledo with Ornate Black Leather Scabbard

Here on offer is a very ornate vintage Spanish Diplomat's dress sword, made in Toledo (Spain) with a black leather scabbard with detailed gilt fittings.

From some online research, it appears it was most likely made during the rule of the Spanish General Francisco Franco. He ruled Spain from 1939 to 1975 as a dictator, assuming the title Caudillo.

It features a finely detailed gilt metal (brass) eagle pommel/grip, with blue painted eyes. There is some very slight loss of gilt to the eagle wings where it has been held. The grip is also fitted with a smooth ivory coloured celluloid insert.

The gilt metal cross-guard is finished with upturned eagle's heads.

The near mint, narrow nickel-plated blade is marked FABRICA DE TOLEDO SPAIN on one side, near the cross-guard. It has ornate swirling floral patterned engraving on both sides that extends for about a third of the blade’s length. The blade is in near/mint condition with just a couple of tiny pin head sized black marks to the etching.

The sword still has it red felt blade buffer in place.

The black leather scabbard is fitted with ornate floral patterned gilt metal (brass), upper and lower fittings that are in excellent condition. I am amazed the scabbard is in such perfect condition, as it is very thin and as such flexible and could easily bend.
I assume it has spent all its life with the sword inserted into it, which has kept it straight and in excellent condition.

This is a rare and very ornate sword that is even harder to find in such perfect condition.

The blade measures 29.25” (74.5cm) and the overall length of the sword is 33” (84cm).

It weighs 450g.
