The Cookery And Food Association Docendo Discimus Car Badge
Here on offer is an unusual example of a car badge for The Cookery and Food Association “Docendo Discimus”, circa 1960.
The Cookery and Food Association (now named the Craft Guild of Chefs), I believe produced these badges in the 1960's.
The encased circular badge appears to be a blue paper printed image of wild boars either side of an oval crest which has a crown on the top.
The Latin inscription “Docendo Discimus” translates to; ”by teaching we learn”.
The paper badge shows signs of staining, creasing and the lower edge seems to have suffered some water damage, at some point in its life.
The front of the badge has a thick clear plastic dome cover, that is fitted nto a chrome metal disc. On the reverse there are two fixing holes that I think originally would have had a mounting plate attached.
I would suggest the badge is now only suitable for displaying in the dry and not for fitting to a car.
The car badge measures 3.2” (8cm) diameter and weighs 70g.
