M1908 Brazilian Mauser Bayonet with Brass Mounted Leather Scabbard
Here on offer is an excellent example of a M1908 Brazilian Mauser bayonet with brass mounted leather scabbard.
I believe they were made for use with the 7 mm M1908 Mauser rifle that was produced for Brazil by DWM in Germany.
These bayonets were made from 1908–1914 by several German blade makers. Such as Simson & Co. of Suhl, and Alex Coppel.
There are no markings or maker’s name on this example which is not uncommon.
The bayonet has a steel pommel and cross guard with forward-swept quillon. The top edge of the cross guard is stamped with the number 1162 over 1.
The wooden grip slabs are held by two steel washers and rivets.
It has a 11.76″ fullered, single-edged steel blade that is in mint condition.
It still retains its original brass mounted, black leather scabbard. There is a slight shallow indentation about half way down the scabbard and some storage marks on the brass scabbard mounts.
The bayonet has a blade length of 11.76” (30.2cm) and a total length of 17.2” (43.5cm).
It weighs 560g
