Rare WW2 “Bundles for Britain” Lion & Union Jack Brooch by Walter Lampl USA
Here on offer is a rare opportunity to obtain a WW2 “Bundles for Britain” Lion & Union Jack brooch by Walter Lampl, USA.
The gilt metal brooch is in excellent condition and has a prancing lion at the top with a cube charm suspended by a ring below.
It was designed in the 1940’s by American designer Walter Lampl and is stamped “WL” on one side if the cube.
This unusual “Bundles for Britain” brooch was sold in America to raise funds for the British war relief. This is a wonderful piece of 1940s history.
On the reverse of the lion there are the words:
BUNDLES FOR BRITAIN
INC.
It also has its original pin and locking “C” clasp.
The cube charm opens and contains a miniature silk Union Jack flag that I have not removed as it’s really compacted into the cube and looks to have never been removed! The flag can be seen through tiny windows on three sides of the cube.
On one side of the cube, there is the British crown, with the words:
BRITAIN DELIVERS THE GOODS.
On another side are the words:
BUNDLES FOR BRITAIN
INC.
Walter Lampl was based in New York, and his jewellery was in production from 1921 to 1959. The Lampl motto was 'Creators of the Unusual, as Usual'.
It measures 2” (5cm) long by 0.75” (1.9cm) wide and weighs 7g.
