Poignant WW1 Sepia Photo Post Card – Ike and Edith Grimsey on their Wedding Day – Ike KIA
Here on offer is a very poignant WW1 photo post card that depicts a sepia photo of Ike (in his military uniform) and Edith Grimsey on their wedding day on the 16th February 1916.
Ike Grimsey served with the 1st battalion, Kings Royal Rifle Corps, but sadly was killed in action exactly one year later in France on the 16th February 1917, aged 28.
On the back is hand written:
From Edith with Love
and it was probably sent to Ike in a parcel, while he was serving on the front line in France.
Then it looks like Edith has added the notes to say how the photo was taken on their wedding day and that Ike was killed exactly one year later on their first anniversary! So sad.
I believe this card needs to be in a collection or museum where it can be truly appreciated.
I have included an A4 print out of Ike Grimsey’s details from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, that show he is buried in the Ovillers Military Cemetery, Somme, France.
The print out will be sent, folded and included with the original post card in a “do not bend” envelope.
