Presentation 3rd Pattern FS Fighting Knife to Sgt Andrew Melville of the SAS on being awarded the Military Medal
Here on offer is a mint vintage presentation 3rd Pattern FS Fighting Knife by J. Nowill of Sheffield.
It has a 7” double-edged blade in forged carbon steel with blued finish. If I am being really “picky” it has the lightest loss of bluing to the very tip of the blade that is hardly noticeable.
The cast metal alloy handle has a steel oval guard and a hexagonal nut pommel.
The base of the handle has the J.Nowill trademarks and the oval guard is stamped with the NATO and Crowfoot marks along with the maker’s details:
J.NOWILL
& SONS
SHEFFIELD
ENGLAND
It comes with its original black leather and metal tipped sheath with stitching tabs and elastic tab.
The blade has been professionally engraved with the following:

Congratulations on your award
of the MM
Sgt Melville was awarded the Military Medal on the 29th June 1991 for his services in the British SAS, during operation Granby. This was the name given to the British Armed Forces deployment to the Middle East after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on 2 August 1990 and subsequent operations during the 1991 Gulf War.
He was also listed in the London Gazette on the 5th December 1997, as:
24355763 Sergeant Andrew Melville, The Parachute Regiment.
That is all the information I can currently find out about Sgt Andrew Melville, but it does warrant further researching.
It comes with a couple of photocopies of pages confirming the Military Medal details.
