Ornate Vintage Collectors Lock Knife by Herbertz Messer with Laguiole “Bee”

Here on offer is a mint example of an ornate vintage collectors lock knife by Herbertz Messer, Solingen.

What I find unusual about this knife is it has the forged image of a Bee on the locking spring stop, as seen on French made Laguiole knives?

The Bee, one of the symbols of an Original Forge de Laguiole knife, is carved with a file and an engraver. The legend goes that the Napoleonic imperial symbol was attributed to the citizens of Laguiole by Emperor Napoléon himself as a tribute to their courage shown in the services to the emperor.

It is possible that Herbertz may have obtained some parts from Laguiole to make this knife, or even Herbertz made the knife as a special for Laguiole?
I can’t find another example of this model of knife (215712) for reference.

The grip is made up of a richly grained section of beautiful pakka wood on each side, held in place by three pins.

The bolsters on this knife are just beautiful and are gilt finished over a black background that highlights the fine swirling scroll work.

The top edge of the spring plate is polished steel with the French Laguiole makers Bee image at the top and the recessed locking release area at the base.

The razor sharp folding single edged blade is made from 440 stainless steel and has the Herbertz logo and MESSER etched on one side.

It has the makers name and details stamped on the blade tang:
C. JUL. HERBERTZ
ROSTFREI 440
215712

The knife is in mint unused condition and is possible a limited edition piece?

The blade measures 3.75” (9.6cm) long and the knife when opened is 9.1” (23cm) in total length.

It weighs 180g.
