Original WW1 photograph of the 1st Riding Squad of the Royal Engineers at Aldershot in 1916
Here on offer is an original large WW1 photograph of the 1st Riding Squad of the Royal Engineers at Aldershot in 1916.
It shows 10 Royal Engineers sitting astride their horses whilst training at Aldershot, England in 1916.
One of the very happy soldier’s has an * marked below his horse and I assume this identifies him as “dad” as written on the back of the photo. Sadly there is no name associated with “dad” so I can’t identify him.
I can’t find any direct reference to the 1st Riding Squad (no72) in the Royal Engineers.
I assume they where being trained to manage their horse’s that where primarily used to pull wagons of supplies, eqiment and artillery during WW1.
The original photo seems to have been mounted on to a form card that now shows some edge damage at both ends.
It measures 10.6” (27cm) by 4.6” (11.5cm).
It weighs 42g.
