Rare Schatt & Morgan Model 21 Senator Knife with Reverse Worm Groove Bone Grips - 1 of 30

Here on offer is a rare Schatt & Morgan model #21 senator two bladed knife with reverse worm groove bone grip plates.

It is only 1 of 30 produced and is in mint condition.

The Queen Cutlery Co. manufactured this knife as a member of the Schatt & Morgan family of knives.

This knife has never been used and comes in its original Schatt & Morgan labeled cardboard box and paper wrapping.

The knife itself has two 1.9” long, 1095 American carbon steel blades.

One is etched with:

SCHATT & MORGAN
The other with:

1 of 30

The front tangs feature the Schatt & Morgan "S & M" logo and Titusville, PA and the rear tang is stamped with Queen Cut. Co. logo and DFC USA CARBON.

The grip is made up of brass liners and nickel silver bolsters and two grip plates of reverse worm groove bone. These are held in place with three round-headed nickel pins and the front is inset with a key stone blank plate.

The origins of Schatt & Morgan date to 1895. The founders of Queen City (later incorporated as Queen Cutlery) were fired from S&M in 1918. When the Schatt & Morgan cutlery collapsed into bankruptcy in 1933, Queen City bought all the assets and subsequently moved into the S&M building on Chestnut Street, in Titusville, PA.
Many years later, in 1991, Queen revived the Schatt & Morgan brand with a series of finely crafted pocketknives called the Keystone Series. The inaugural release consisted of a set of 6 folding knives. In some years 7 knives made up a set and in others, just 6. The numbered series sets ran for 20 years, ending in 2011. Under Daniels family ownership the series was revived, typically with just 400 sets per year but the sequential numbering of the sets was not continued.

In 1998 the Schatt & Morgan File & Wire Series was introduced. These knives represented the epitome of the cutler’s art and were most often larger folding knives.

Each series comprised 5 knives and utilized a distinct colour of jigged worm groove bone handles. Under the original numbering system, six series were produced through 2012.

The Daniels family continued to produce the File & Wire knives but did not continue to identify them by series number. These knives appeared in Queen catalogues right through to the final one issued in 2017.

Lastly, the Schatt & Morgan Heritage Series enjoyed a brief run, in 2011. Limited to runs of just 300 knives, a small number of patterns were reproduced based upon original Schatt & Morgan designs.

The knife closed measures 3.25” (8.2cm) long and when open each blade measures 1.9” (4.7cm).

It weighs 41g.
