Rare WW2 Deutsches Jungvolk DJ Carved Wooden Letter Opener
Here on offer is an rare and unusual WW2 Deutsches Jungvolk DJ letter opener.
Founded in 1928, the Deutsches Jungvolk in der Hitlerjugend DJ, also DJV; German for "German Youngsters in the Hitler Youth") was the separate section for boys aged 10 to 13 of the Hitler Youth (HJ) organisation in Nazi Germany.
Through a programme of outdoor activities, parades and sports, it aimed to indoctrinate its young members in the tenets of Nazi ideology. Membership became fully compulsory for eligible boys in 1939. By the end of WW2 some had become child soldiers.
After the end of the war in 1945, both the Deutsches Jungvolk and its parent organization, the Hitler Youth, ceased to exist.
The fine letter opener has been hand carved out of a piece of dark mahogany hardwood and shows the beautiful dark pattern of the grain in the wood.
At the top, in the oval on both sides, the Deutsches Jungvolk Sieg Rune insignia (single lightning dash) has been carved.
I imagine this is a “unique piece” and was possibly a gift or even presentation piece to a senior member of the Deutsches Jungvolk.
It is in excellent condition with just the very tip of the blade section missing.
It measures 8.2” (20.6cm) long and weighs 20g.
