WW1 German Trench Art Driving Band Bracelet with Black Enamel Iron Cross and Oak Leaves

Here on offer is a fine example of a WW1 German trench art driving band bracelet with attached black enamel Iron Cross and metal oak leaves.

This type of German patriotic ‘sweetheart jewellery’ was popular during WW1 and as post war souvenir items in Germany.

This bracelet has been made from a copper driving band salvaged from a WW1 German artillery shell.
A bright gilt finish was applied and it retains the original grooved pattern to the outer surface.

A minute detailed brass and black enamel 1914 Iron Cross has been applied to the centre of the band with metal oak leaves to either side.

The band is hinged at one side, with the opposite side fitted with an inline release catch that appears to have the small flat top section missing, leaving a sharp point, but it still operates when pushed down with a finger nail.

There is also a gilt wire safety chain to ensure it doesn’t just fall of your wrist when opened.

The interior of the band bears a repeating pattern of grid-like indentations and there is a plate attached that has an engraved inscription "Weltkrieg 1914/15.”, which translates to “World War I 1914/15”

It measures approximately 2.3” (5.8cm) by 2” (53cm) and weighs 26g.
