Non-Magnetic Siebe Gorman Diver’s Knife Complete with Rare Original Leather Belt and Loop c1960

Here on offer is fine example of a NON-MAGNETIC SIEBE GORMAN diver’s knife complete with its rare original thick leather belt and belt loop.

From researching (please see the excellent information relating to these knives on Divescrap.com), I believe this version of knife is the type used by the Dutch Navy in the 1960’s.
These knives had no markings on the brass sheath where the Royal Navy versions had the word “NON-MAGNETIC” cast into the sheath.

The pommel is made from brass and the nut fits tightly onto the black “Ebonite” ribbed grip.
The Ebonite grip is in excellent condition with just some very light scratches.

The plain oval brass finger guard and ferrule, complete the hilt assembly.

The really impressive 7.9” (20cm) double-edged steel blade is in excellent/near mint condition and has a bright finish, retaining its original cross graining.
If I am being picky, there are just two very slight edge dings to one edge that you can feel with your finger.

The maker’s name:

SIEBE GORMAN & Co. *

is clearly etched onto the blade and the * symbol denotes this knife is NON-MAGNETIC.

The heavy sheath has been cast from brass and shows some casting marks to the finish. The top is fluted and there is a slot in the reverse to retain the leather strap.

On the reverse there is also a large copper rivet that secures the internal blade spring to hold the knife firmly in the sheath.

The end of the sheath has an oval opening to allow any water to escape.

What makes this divers knife exceptional is the fact it still has its rare original leather belt loop and divers belt.

The loop is attached to the thick leather belt by a sold brass nut and bolt that has a square section that locates into a square cut out in the belt loop.

The belt measure about 44” (112cm) in total length and retains its strong brass buckle.
These belts just don’t survive for long after being used in seawater and a just never found in this excellent condition.

I have lightly treated the belt and loop with leather conditioner to restore its original finish.

I just don’t think you will find a better example of a diver knife with its original fittings. A great collectors piece.

The blade measures 7.9” (20cm) and the knife itself 13.75” (35cm) long.

It weighs, with the belt a heavy 1.2Kg.
