Stunning Antique Silver Plated Domed Cigarette Case with Scrolling Designs and Faux Tortoiseshell Interior by J.C.Ltd

Here on offer is a top quality antique silver plated domed cigarette case with scrolling designs and faux tortoiseshell interior.

The case is made from a heavy gauge E.P.N.S. metal that has had a thick layer of silver plating applied.

Each of the case covers are slightly domed and it has smooth rounded edges, making it a very tactile piece to hold and use.

The outside of the case has a beautiful scrolling leaf pattern all over and plain edges to the front and back lids.

On the front lid at the top is a circular section that has been engraved in gothic text with the owner’s initials, which seem to read as:

F M J

The inside has beautiful faux tortoiseshell inserts in both sections of the case. There is a tiny split to the edge near the release catch that hardly notices.

There are also two unusual sprung metal retaining straps, which I have not seen before in a cigarette case? Around the inner edge, there is also an English Patent No. 216419 that I believe applies to these sprung straps?

Also stamped around the edge is a maker’s mark:

(J.C.Ltd) and E.P.N.S.

along with MADE IN ENGLAND

I believe the case was made in Birmingham, England, by the silversmith J. Collyer Ltd in the early 1900’s.

The side release button and strong hinge are in perfect working order, and the case closes with almost an airtight seal.

This is a fine quality case with no wear or damage to the plating or case itself.
It measures 3.5” (8.9cm) by 3” (7.7cm) and 0.75” (1.9cm) thick, weighing a heavy 115g.
