WW2 Returned Sailors Soldiers & Airmen’s - Australian Imperial League Lapel Badge with “66” Year Clasp
Here on offer is a WW2/vintage returned Sailors Soldiers & Airmen’s - Australian Imperial League lapel badge with additional “66” year clasp.
This badge was issued to the returned serving personnel of the sailors, soldiers and airmen’s services. It was first introduced in a different form in 1916 and continued through and beyond WW2.
The badge is made of brass with a white, blue and red enamel inlay.
It is in the shape of white enamel shield with a regal crown on top. The shield is white enamel, with a blue enamel circle containing the words - Returned Sailors, Soldiers & Airmen’s.
Below the circle a red enamel ribbon is depicted with the words – IMPERIAL LEAGUE AUSTRALIA enclosed.
The brass centre of the badge has the figures of a Sailor, Soldier & Airman each carrying a rifle.
Interestingly this badge has a black 66 year clasp fastened with three clasps around the crown. In this period financial members received a new clasp for each year of financial membership with subscriptions paid.
It is also well marked on the back with the owners number 82036 and in raised lettering:
S BADGE REMAINS PROPERTY OF LEAGUE SWANN & HUDSON VIC
It is in excellent condition but doesn’t have the small lapel retaining wire on the back.
It measures 1” (2.5cm) high by 0.75” (1.9cm) wide and weighs 5g.
