Rare Boxed Set of Two Cutthroat Razors by the Famous Cutler J. W. STUTTER London c1880
Here on offer is a rare presentation boxed set of two cutthroat razors by the famous cutler, J. W. Stutter of 133 Bishopsgate, London c1880.
This is the same cutler who made the impressive 365 bladed knife for Great Exhibition in 1851, photo attached for reference.
They come in what looks to be a light oak wood presentation box that has a red silk and felt lining and the maker’s name in gold lettering inside the lid. The release catch is still in working order and it has a blank gilt brass plaque set into the top lid. It has an old small repair (filler) to one corner but is in overall excellent condition.
Each razor has a polished steel 3” (7.6cm) cutting blade and is stamped with the maker’s name on one side:
J. W. STUTTER
133. BISHOPSGATE ST. EC
They are both in excellent condition with just some tiny areas of light surface pitting.
Both retain a truly sharp cutting edge even after 140+ years!
Both of the black 5.75” (14.6cm) handles are made from an early celluloid or Bakelite material and one shows a slight crack by the lower rivet pin.
Both razors in the box weigh 202g.
This is a great opportunity to obtain a rare boxed set on Victorian cutthroat razors by a renowned London maker.
